CLAMP’s Moodle 2.0 Status Report

After careful assessment, CLAMP has concluded that Moodle 2.0.1 is not production ready. This assessment was conducted at Moodle Hack/Doc Fest VII at Furman University in January 2011. CLAMP will re-evaluate the progress of Moodle 2.0.x in March 2011 and make a recommendation then about deploying Moodle 2.x for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Our full report outlines notable improvements to Moodle 2.0, as well as known blockers, possible blockers and other potential issues that affect its production readiness. Download the full report [PDF]

Greetings – while Khalifa University is not liberal arts – we have found your document on the status of Moodle 2.0.1 very enlightning. I am a staff of one trying to gather as much information as possible about 2.0 to make the recommendation if we install it this summer during our break.

    I have two questions –

Opps – my two questions are: 1. The report states that the Banner Moodle module will not be ready till Jan 2011 – do you mean Jan 2012? 2. When will the report from the March test be available?

Thank you so very much for your help – Nancy K. Hoke

No, I meant January 2011. I’m checking on the status of it now; last I heard it was in beta, but there’s no 2.0 release available from the download page (http://moodle.org/mod/data/view.php?d=13&rid=849).

Regarding our follow-up report, we’re meeting today (4/14) to discuss the state of Moodle 2.0. The big change is that they’ve fixed the problem with student data being purged from the course if they’re unenrolled; it will now re-appear if the student is re-enrolled later on (as per the Moodle 1.9 behavior). We should have an updated report out sometime later this month.

Hi – Thanks for this report. It’s been very helpful. Do you have an eta on the updated evaluation you had slated for March?
