Save the Date: Moodle Hack/Doc Fest, Summer 2010

Moodle Hack/Doc Fest for Summer 2010 will be held Wednesday, June 23 through Friday, June 25 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. The event immediately follows NITLE Camp 2010, which will include a day-long session dedicated to Moodle on Tuesday, June 22. More information — inclduing registration details — will be posted Monday, April 12.

This will be CLAMP’s sixth Moodle Hack/Doc Fest. As with our earlier events, we’ll be focusing on adding functionally to Moodle, documenting new and existing features, and merging the latest updates from Moodle core into our Liberal Arts Edition of Moodle.

  1. Hey, I’m interested in more details about this project. What it entails, what code gets released after (and has been released in the past) and such. Would love to spread the word about how you pull it together and perhaps how other orgs can get their own hack/doc fests up. Connect w/ me anytime and release the info here!

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Moodle Hack/Doc Fest is three day event in which programmers and instructional technologists from different colleges get together to work on Moodle. Exactly what we tackle varies from event to event, but typically we work on fixing bugs, documenting new features, developing new blocks and modules, and updating our Moodle: Liberal Arts Edition, which is a version of Moodle that has our most important changes “baked in”. Most of our work is focused on issues that are of particular interest to liberal arts colleges, though we’ve had a few larger and smaller schools participate as well.

Code from Hack/Doc Fests is available to CLAMP members through our Subversion repository and when that code is finished, we release it on the CLAMP web site (http://www.clamp-it.org/code/). We also contribute our bug fixes and patches back to Moodle through Tracker. We also try and work with existing issues in Tracker, adding institution-specific examples for bugs, feature requests, etc.

Information about the next Hack/Doc Fest can be found here:

Feel free to contact me for more information (all the contact info is available on that page).
