New Moodle LAE Releases for 2.3.7 and 2.4.4

There are two new CLAMP releases. This is the initial release on the 2.4 branch. Both releases include bugfixes for Anonymous Forums, the ability to recover grades when re-enrolling a student, the Roster Report module, and CLAMP’s rewritten Quickmail block. In addition, the 2.4 release includes the ability to set a course-level default for resource display mode.

The initial 2.5 release is pending the resolution of a bug discovered during integration testing. We expect the 2.5 release to happen next week.

Moodle 2.x Status Update, June 2013

CLAMP is pleased to recommend the use of Moodle 2.4 for the 2013-14 academic year. Moodle 2.4 and Moodle 2.5 were reviewed at Moodle Hack/Doc Fest at Colgate University in July 2013 and while no major problems were found with 2.5, the lion’s share of our time was spent on reviewing 2.4 and its features. CLAMP documentation for Moodle 2.4 can be found at https://www.clamp-it.org/documentation/

The organization recommends upgrading to at least Moodle 2.4, rather than Moodle 2.3, because 2.3 will go out of official support when 2.6 is released in late 2013. Moodle core only supports the three most recent releases of Moodle and in December 2013 that’s expected to be 2.6, 2.5, and 2.4. Upgrading to 2.4 now avoids having to do a mid-year upgrade in January 2014.

This summer CLAMP will release three new versions of the Liberal Arts Edition on Friday, June 21, 2013:

  • Moodle 2.3.7+Liberal Arts Edition v3.1
  • Moodle 2.4.4+Liberal Arts Edition v4.0
  • Moodle 2.5.0+Liberal Arts Edition v5.0

CLAMP’s own support for Moodle 2.3 will track with Moodle core’s and will end with Moodle 2.6’s release.

CLAMP Moodle 2.x Deployment Report 2012-13

Each year CLAMP runs a survey to determine where its member schools are with regards to Moodle: what versions people are running, what they are going to, when they are making the move. This survey helps the Steering Committee and the Development Committee decide what versions CLAMP should support. The 2012-13 version of the survey saw 57% (24 colleges) of CLAMP schools respond.

Colgate Hack/Doc Fest: Day 3 – Moodle 2.4 Docs, Language Lesson

The third day of Moodle Hack/Doc Fest was a quiet one as people spent time finishing up projects.

One of these projects was documentation; documentation for Moodle 2.4 is now available through Google Drive. While the Doc’ers were able to spend some time reviewing Moodle 2.5, we don’t have documentation complete for that version. That said, 2.5 is more about improving usability than it is adding features, so the 2.4 documentation should still be helpful for those moving to 2.5. Read more

Colgate Hack/Doc Fest: Day 2 – LAE releases, Moodle 2.4 vs 2.5, Rubrics

The second day of Hack/Doc Fest at Colgate University saw the creation of betas of the Moodle: Liberal Arts Edition for 2.3, 2.4, and 2.5, lots of work evaluating 2.4 vs. 2.5, and development work on language lesson, scheduler, and Selenium test scripts.

We had two presentations — “Updates and new features to LAE Grade Suite, updates to Quickset block” by Bob Puffer, Luther College and “IPAL Web Clicker Demonstration” by Bill Junkin, Eckard College. Video of the presentations is available on CLAMP’s YouTube channelFinally we announced the winners of the CLAMP Recognition Awards for 2012-13.
