Transportation

Getting to Campus: http://colgate.edu/directions/

Airport
Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR, http://www.syrairport.org/) is the most convenient airport. Rental cars are available at the airport. It is a 1-hour drive (approximately) from the airport to the college.

Another option is Albany International Airport (ALB, http://www.albanyairport.com/) which is located 2 hours from Hamilton, but is served by Southwest Airlines and therefore may have much lower fares.

Cabs
Cabs are available at the airport via the ground transportation desk.

Trains
The nearest Amtrak station (UCA) is located in downtown Utica and is about 30 miles (about 50 minutes) from Hamilton. The station’s address is 321 Main Street, Utica NY 13501.

Perhaps as convenient due to its proximity to the Syracuse Airport is the Syracuse Amtrak station (SYR). The station is located at 131 Alliance Bank Parkway, Regional Transportation Center, Syracuse NY 13208, about an hour from Hamilton.

Driving & Parking
Parking is available on campus to the west of Case-Geyer without a parking pass.

Lodging

Attendees are responsible for arranging their own lodging. There are the recommended options for the event.

Colgate Inn

Wendt University Inn

We have arranged a block of rooms at the nearby Colgate Inn. These rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis for Sunday-Thursday (Friday checkout). Reservations are requested by May 10. A smaller block is of rooms is also available at the nearby Wendt University Inn.

Weather

Syracuse has never had a snowfall recorded in the month of August! That said, June in Hamilton can be highly variable. The average high temperature in June is 76 degrees, but can range from a high over 80 to a low in the mid-50s.

Online Collaboration

Redmine
All of our online conversations and issue tracking/discussions will happen in Redmine, our online collaboration suite. You can use your CLAMP username and password to login to redmine. If you don’t have an account (and everyone should by now) please contact Dan Wheeler.

Jabber
For backchannel conversations at Hack/Doc Fest we’re going to be using Jabber, an instant messaging client. We’ve setup a Jabber server on the CLAMP-IT.org web site that you can authenticate to using your CLAMP username and password. If you’re on a Mac, we recommend using the Adium client to connect to the server; we’ve had issues with iChat.

Jabber Client Settings:

  • Jabber ID: [clamp ID]@clamp-it.org
  • Password: Your CLAMP Password

Virtual Participation

As at previous Hack/Doc Fests, we will be paring people at Hack/Doc Fest with virtual counterparts to work on particular tasks/bugs. Virtual participants should be prepared to start working on Hack/Doc projects at 10 a.m. on each day of Hack/Doc Fest.

Itinerary

This is a tentative itinerary for Moodle Hack/Doc Fest. Hack/Doc is a very ad hoc event; we typically come up with a plan the first day of the event, break up into teams, and then get to work. This itinerary exists to provide a rough overview of our schedule, and is subject to change on site.

Hack/Doc Fest Orientation

We will be holding a pre-event Hack/Doc Orientation on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 in Google Hangout, at 2 p.m.

During this session we’ll be making sure that everyone’s CLAMP accounts work (for logging into WordPress and Redmine) and trying out the Jabber server. We’ll also be taking a first crack at running down the task list.
